The Computing and Mathematics department offers several Certificates in addition to a final ORU diploma. Students need to complete and pass (with a grade of C or higher) specific courses in able to qualify for each certificate. A list of the CM certificates and their requirements can be found below.
The Registrar's office coordinates issuing our certificates. Students no longer have to wait for graduation to begin the certificate process. You can petition as soon as you decide to pursue a certificate.
Steps for receiving a certificate are as follows:
- Go to petitions.oru.edu and choose “Petition to Add a Certificate.” At that point the student is petitioning to pursue the certificate; they are not saying that they have necessarily completed the certificate coursework yet.
- After the student has completed all of the required coursework, they go to the Commencement homepage and click on the “Apply to Graduate” button (even if they’re not graduating yet). Follow the directions on the document. At step #6, the student will see the certificates and degrees they are pursuing. The student selects the certificate that they earned.
- If the student is applying to receive multiple certificates, they will need to follow all application steps for each certificate.
- The Registrar will then verify that the student has completed the required coursework for the certificate. After it’s verified, an outside company called Parchment will print and mail the certificate to the student's address on file.
