How Tuition Assistance Works

Tuition Assistance offers up to $4,500 per fiscal year, depending on your service branch. These funds can be used for undergraduate or graduate-level courses—primarily through ORU Online. In some cases, National Guard or Reserve members may also use TA for on-campus classes.

You’ll want to check with your unit’s education office to confirm your eligibility and branch-specific guidelines.

TA covers your tuition and any course-specific fees, such as lab or online course charges. However, it does not cover books, course materials, flight training, continuing education units, or repeating a course. Also note: Tuition Assistance is not available for spouses or dependents and can’t be used for education beyond a master’s degree or for a degree you’ve already earned.

By Branch: What You Should Know

TA is capped at $3,750 per year and limited to 124 undergrad and 42 grad credit hours over a lifetime.
