Entrance into the Graduate School of Theology and Ministry requires a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 2.5 (professional degrees) or 3.0 (academic degrees). As a part of the application process, all official transcripts must be submitted to the Graduate School of Theology and Ministry.

Entrance Exam

The Graduate School of Theology and Ministry requires an entrance exam; however, this requirement is waived for those who hold a bachelor's degree with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or a master's degree from a regionally accredited institution. Prospective students may choose to sit for either the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or the Miller's Analogies Test (MAT).

Graduate Record Examination (General Test)

The Graduate Record Examination (General Test) measures verbal, quantitative and analytical skills that have been acquired over a long period of time and are not related to any special field of study. The test consists of three scored sections:

Verbal - 30 minute section (30 questions) Analyze and evaluate written material; analyze relationships among sentences

Quantitative - 45 minute section (28 questions) Basic math skills to reason quantitatively and solve problems

Analytical - 60 minute section (35 questions)

Understand structured sets of relationships; analyze and evaluate arguments

The Graduate School of Theology and Ministry requires a minimum combined score of 300 for the verbal and quantitative sections on the GRE.

Miller Analogies Test

The Miller Analogies Test is a standardized test of verbal analogies used to assist graduate departments and schools in their admissions process. The MAT is a one hour exam consisting of 120 problems and is offered as a paper and pencil test or computer-based test. The Graduate School of Theology and Ministry requires a minimum score of 396 on the MAT.

Each website has useful information on the structure of the test, test preparation advice, sample questions, location of test sites, fees, etc. You may also find test preparation materials by doing a web search using key words such as gre test preparation or mat test preparation.

For Oklahoma and Tulsa area applicants, both tests are available locally at local computer testing centers. The GRE is offered Mondya - Saturday, for a fee of $150 at the Prometric Testing Center located at 3015 East Skelly Drive (the 3000 Center), Suite 254. Call 918.747.9333 for an appointment. The MAT is offered Monday - Friday for a fee of $65 at the OSU-Tulsa Campus, Learning Services Center, North Hall 103 located at 700 North Greenwood Ave. Call 918.594.8232 for an appointment.

When taking an entrance exam, be sure to select ORU as the recipient for your exam results, using the following codes: GRE #6552, MAT #2173. You will also receive a score report. However, Graduate Admissions must have an original exam report directly from the testing service for this requirement to be considered officially met. If the MAT is taken on computer, a preliminary score may be given to you. Please fax a copy to 918.495.6725, and your application file will be submitted to the Admissions Committee with that copy if the file is otherwise complete. Your acceptance would be conditional, pending receipt of the official exam score.

 

International Students

 Academic History Documentation

Submit official transcripts, matriculation certificates, mark sheets, and/or diplomas with English translation from your undergraduate/graduate school(s) to World Education Services (WES) for a course-by-course evaluation.  An official evaluation of your academic history will be sent by WES to Oral Roberts University.  Please complete the Application for Evaluation of Internalized Educational Credentials. The application is available online at www.wes.org.

 

English Proficiency Requirements

Oral Roberts University requires proof that you have sufficient knowledge of the English  language to succeed in your program of study.  You must provide proof of English language proficiency before you can be admitted. Provide official scores of at least 550  (paper-based on the Test of English as a Foreign Language [TOEFL]), 213 (computer-based), or 78-80 (Internet-based).  Have the official test scores sent directly from the English Testing Services to Oral Roberts University (institution code #6552).  Test scores cannot be more than two years old.  Registration material for the test may be obtained at the TOEFL website: www.toefl.org

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) tests are held in over 500 centers with tests up to four times a month.  IELTS respects international diversity and is fair to anyone who sits the test, regardless of nationality. You will be given the option to choose from two types of IELTS tests: Academic or General Training, depending on whether you want to study, work, or migrate.  Both modules are made up of four parts: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. IELTS results are graded on the unique IELTS 9-band scale. The Graduate School of Theology and Ministry requires applicants to take the Academic IELTS test and score a minimum band score of 7.0.

Financial Guarantee Form

When attending ORU on an F-1 student visa, all financial requirements must be proven in order for ORU to issue the immigration document I-20 form. The ORU Financial Guarantee Form must be completed fully, including the following:

  • Signature of applicant with understanding of cost of education.
  • Signature of Affidavit and understanding of cost of education by the Guarantor.
  • Signature and Seal of the financial institution of the Guarantor. If the institution is unable to sign the Financial Guarantee Form, a letter from the institution on letterhead with seal and signature is required, verifying the financial ability of the Guarantor.

Important Information

Tuition Deposit

After admission has been granted, a non-refundable tuition payment in the amount of $125 is required. However, the Seminary administration has waived the $125 Enrollment Deposit for all new students who will not be residing on campus and will attend courses during the upcoming term. If you choose to petition to live on campus or delay your start to a later term, the $125 Enrollment Deposit will be required.

Medical Assessment and Immunization Record

In accordance with the university's philosophy of educating the whole person (mind, body, and spirit), all students are required to participate in the university's health and fitness program. A medical assessment form and immunization records must be completed after admission to the university and submitted prior to the first day of class.

Clarification of Admissions Criteria

As the ORU Graduate School of Theology and Ministry is a theological seminary preparing students for multiple ministries and positions of authority, in addition to the academic qualifications of the applicants, the Admissions Committee will also consider the applicant's sense of calling to the ministry (based on biographical essay) and related information provided in the references.
