Test Proctoring Procedures
Alternative Testing Accommodation Policy
Purpose
Alternative testing allows students with approved accommodations to demonstrate their academic knowledge without the impact of a disability. To ensure smooth and equitable testing services, all students must follow the procedures below.
Scheduling Requirements
- Students testing through Student Support Services must schedule their exam at least two full business days before the class exam date.
- Exams are typically administered at the same time as the class, unless the instructor and Student Support Services approve a different time.
- Testing room hours: 7:20 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
- Last exam start time: 2:00 p.m.
- Midterms and finals fill quickly. Students should reserve early. Extended hours and pre-scheduled time slots are available during these periods.
Exam Request Process
To request or renew an exam accommodation, students must email disabilityservices@oru.edu.
Subject Line: Class name + exam
Example: BIO 111 Exam
Email Body Must Include:
- Student name
- Z number
- Class title
- Exam date
- Accommodations requested
Students must copy their instructor on the email. Requests submitted with fewer than two full business days’ notice will be denied.
Confirmation
Student Support Services will send a confirmation email once the request is received.
If the Process Is Not Followed
- If a student fails to notify Student Support Services within the required two-business-day window, accommodations may be denied, and the student will take the exam with the class.
- If an instructor provides less than two business days’ notice of an upcoming test or quiz, the instructor may provide accommodations directly or arrange an alternate testing date/time.
