Gene Steiner '71
Gene Steiner (ORU 1971) served in business and ministry development for the past ten years. He is currently the director of Victory In Jesus, a nonprofit ministry. For decades, Gene served as media director and producer for major TV ministries and CEO of several ad agencies, including Creative Media, LLC (since 2001) and The Raymond Wallace Agency. He served CBN and Pat Robertson for seven years, was a Christian TV station manager in Denver, and has overseen multi-million-dollar ad campaigns, TV and radio airtime contracts for networks that broadcast the thousands of ministry programs he produced. Gene traveled to seven countries and produced crusades televised LIVE on TBN from Nigeria and India, and tape delayed from Russia. He has been an ordained minister of the Gospel since 1988, has taught media courses for Christ for the Nations Institute, Dallas for eight years, and served as Billy Joe Daugherty’s Media Director at Victory (Tulsa). He served on the ORU Alumni Board and as treasurer of the Foundation board in the 1990s. After celebrating his 50-year marriage to Kathy Korell (ORU 1972), Kathy passed - going on to her eternal reward in heaven. Gene now lives in Kyle, Texas, a Metro Austin suburb. Gene loves ORU and desires to see it continue to grow and thrive as a prominent charismatic Christian university educating the whole person.
Segment 2 (1980-89) Representatives |

Donald "Skip" Mondragon, MD '81, '85
Skip took Oral's imperative to go into everyman's world by serving in the U.S. Army for 26 years and throughout his medical career. During his time at ORU, where he earned two degrees (’81, ’85-MD), Skip was an academic chairman, a regular at Friday Night Communion, and won 3 titles each in intramural powerlifting and wrestling. He is semi-retired from medicine and enjoys public speaking, coaching, and is an unofficial amateur wrestling aficionado.
Dr. Mondragon is a Distinguished Toastmaster and enjoys speech contests. He recently placed in the Top 50 of the Next Top Speaker 5, out of over 7,200 applicants. Skip was a longtime wrestler and won the 2012 National Veterans Freestyle Championship.
Skip draws upon his Toastmasters and competition experience, along with his wrestling background in his speaking and writing. Skip has spoken extensively on men’s mental health issues, including delivering the TEDX talk, “Tough Guys are an Endangered Species.” He is also the Author of Wrestling Depression is Not For Wimps!
Skip is active in his local church as lay reader, prayer leader, and Lay Eucharistic Minister. One of the main reasons Skip wants to serve on the Alumni Board is to advocate for the faculty because of the strong relationships he's forged with faculty members and the profound impact they had on his life. Skip wants generations of ORU students to enjoy these kinds of relationships. He's convinced that ORU will only remain as strong and vibrant as its faculty.
Skip's true claim to fame is his wife of almost 45 years, Sherry, who has endured far too many moves and overlooks his many idiosyncrasies. He is also proud of his 5 independent and contributing adult children and his 6 grandchildren, with number 7 on the way. And as Skip says, "May the LORD add to my tribe."
Skip’s life verse is Micah 6:8. Skip will endeavor to live up to this as he serves as your representative on the ORU Alumni Board of Directors.
