Designed for educators seeking to lead in the evolving world of school libraries, this comprehensive program equips you to become a dynamic School Library Media Specialist. Whether you're looking to impact elementary, middle, or high school environments, our program offers in-person or virtual classes to offer flexibility for the working professional. Aligned with the American Library Association (ALA) and the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) standards, you will gain hands-on experience through internships and fieldwork. With a focus on literacy, technology integration, and leadership, you’ll be prepared for Oklahoma state certification and ready to transform student learning in just two years.

The Master of Education in School Library   Media Leadership is a comprehensive degree in collaboration with the faculty of the University Library. This degree is designed for the educator who wants opportunities to lead as a School Media Specialist in either elementary or secondary schools. The degree leads to Oklahoma state certification and can be transferred to other states. All master degree candidates must conduct an audit of degree course requirements and pass the Comprehensive Exams before graduation.

Program Outcomes

  • Foster Inclusive and Engaging Learning Environments Goal: Graduates will create learner-centered environments that are equitable, inclusive, and culturally responsive, both physically and virtually, based on a Christian worldview. Outcome: Graduates will be able to design and manage a school library that supports diverse learners by promoting literacy, providing access to varied resources, and encouraging positive social interaction and collaborative learning.
  • Develop and Implement Instructional Strategies Goal: Graduates will be proficient in designing and delivering effective, inquiry-based instructional programs that integrate literacy and digital tools to enhance learning. Outcome: Graduates will collaborate with teachers and instructional teams to plan, execute, and assess resource-based learning experiences that engage students in critical thinking, digital literacy, and ethical use of information.
  • Manage and Curate Library Collections Goal: Graduates will organize and manage diverse collections of resources, ensuring equitable access to information and promoting digital and information literacy. Outcome: Graduates will curate collections that reflect the academic, cultural, and personal needs of the learning community, using evidence-based practices to select, organize, and evaluate materials in various formats.
  • Exhibit Leadership and Advocacy in School Libraries Goal: Graduates will become Spirit-Empowered leaders and advocates for the role of the school library in enhancing student achievement and lifelong learning. Outcome: Graduates will effectively lead professional development, collaborate with school and district stakeholders, and advocate for the importance of school libraries as essential to student success and information equity.
