MFA STEPS
***Update***
If you already have the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone or just switched phones and need to set up MFA again, the good way to do this is to remove the ORU account from the Microsoft Authentication app before setting up MFA again. Otherwise, you will not be able to scan the QR code.
The use of MFA (multi-factor authentication) will be mandatory when signing in from off-campus. I you have not yet set up MFA, we encourage you to do so as soon as possible.
How to Set Up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA):
Set up your Microsoft 365 sign-in for multi-factor authentication
Office for business Microsoft 365 admin
Once your admin enables your organization, and your account, for multi-factor authentication
(MFA) you have to set up your user account to use it. This should only take a minute
or so.
Tip: Want to know more about multi-factor authentication? See What is: Multifactor authentication.
By setting up MFA, you add an extra layer of security to your Microsoft 365 account sign-in. For example, you first enter your password and, when prompted, you also type a dynamically generated verification code provided by an authenticator app or sent to your phone.
1. Sign in to Microsoft 365 with your work or school account with your password like you normally do. After you choose Sign in, you'll be prompted for more information.
2. Choose Next.
3. The default authentication method is to use the free Microsoft Authenticator app. If you have it installed on your mobile device, select Next and follow the prompts to add this account. If you don't have it installed there is a link provided to download here. It is available for both IOS and Android.
We have disabled the capability to use SMS messages as a 2 factor authenication method. You must use the authenticator app.
4. Once you complete the instructions to specify your additional verification method, the next time you sign in to Microsoft 365, you'll be prompted to provide the additional verification information or action, such as typing the verification code provided by your authenticator app.
Note: Generally you'll only need the additional verification method the first time you sign into a new app or device, or after you've changed your password.
