At ORU, international students can gain valuable work experience and earn money through ORU's Work-Study Program. If you’re a full-time, on-campus student, you may qualify to work in various departments across the university.

- Enroll and register full-time in on-campus classes
- Accept the work-study award on your financial aid offer (Submit a request if you don't see this on your offer)
- Gather these documents:

Getting started with ORU’s Work-Study Program is easy! Follow these simple steps to find and apply for an on-campus job that fits your schedule and skills.
- Log in into Vision.
- Go to ‘Registration Quick Links’ and select ‘Student Employment Application’

Once you complete the following steps above, a hiring manager will review your application and contact you if selected for an interview. If you are chosen for a job, the Student Employment Office will process your hiring details and reach out with next steps.
COMPLETE THE HIRING PROCESS
Once selected, you must complete all required paperwork before starting your job. ORU follows U.S. federal hiring guidelines, meaning only original identification documents can be accepted (no copies or faxes). Congratulations on landing the job!
Obtain Required Documents
Collect the following documents and bring them to Student Employment for processing:
- Passport
- I-20
- I-94 Admission Number
Submit your documents and complete the required hiring paperwork in the Student Employment Office (located in Student Accounts). Once approved, you’ll receive instructions on applying for a Social Security card.
💡 Only original documents are accepted—no copies or faxes.
After completing your hiring paperwork, apply for an SSN. You must provide either your Social Security card or a receipt showing you’ve applied for one to Student Employment before you can begin working.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
A Social Security Number (SSN) is a nine-digit number issued by the Social Security Administration (SSA) to track earnings and tax payments. As an international student, you need an SSN to:
- Work on campus
- File taxes
- Report wages to the U.S. government
If you are authorized to work in the U.S. under your F-1 visa, you must apply for an SSN before starting a job.
After completing your hiring paperwork, apply for an SSN.
Step 1: Obtain Required Documents
- Request an employment verification letter from the International Admissions Office
- Ask your hiring manager for a letter confirming your job offer
Step 2: Schedule an Appointment with the Social Security Office
- Book an appointment online
- Call 1-866-931-7106 (wait times may be up to 20 minutes)
Step 3: Attend Your Appointment
- Travel to the Social Security Office here: Suite 900, 14002 East 21st Street, Tulsa, OK 74134. Please contact the International Student Center if you need transportation assistance.
- Be prepared to go through security screening once you arrive
- Bring all of your documentation:
- I-20 Form
- I-94 Admission Number
- Passport
- Student ID
- Employment verification letter
- Hiring manager letter
- After your appointment, please provide either your Social Security card or a receipt showing you’ve applied for one before starting work.

You can begin working after you submit your SSN receipt to the Student Employment Office.
Once you receive your Social Security card (typically within two weeks of your appointment), you have 45 days to submit a copy to Student Employment.
Yes! If you earned any income in the U.S. last year—including work-study wages, taxable scholarships, or stipends—you must file taxes. Unlike U.S. citizens, international students must file regardless of how much they earned.
- W-2 Form: If you worked on campus, your W-2 will be available in Vision under Employee Services in late January
- 1098 Form: If you received a taxable scholarship or stipend, you may receive this form
- Form 8843, Form 1040-NR, and Schedule 511-NR: Common forms for international students filing taxes

The Summer 360 program offers current students the opportunity to work on campus, earn money, and receive free housing for the summer! Summer job opportunities will be available starting in early April, so don't wait to apply!
Eligiblity:
- Enrolled full-time in on-campus classes during the spring semester
- Enrolled in upcoming fall semester
Program Details:
- You can work up to two jobs to meet the 360-hour requirement
- You can complete your 360 hours from the second week of May until one week before Move-In Day for the Fall semester (about 30 hours per week)
- Once you complete the minimum 360 hours required, the housing charges on your account will be covered
- Note: All Summer 360 participants must complete a Summer 360 contract with Student Employment
