Important F-1 Immigration Changes Effective September 15, 2026
Federal immigration regulations affecting F-1 international students are changing from Duration of Status (D/S) to a Fixed Admission Period. Under the new framework, F-1 students will have a specific authorized period of stay and will need to pay closer attention to their immigration dates and academic completion timeline.
What F-1 Students Need to Do
As immigration policies change, keeping these steps in mind is vital
- Know Your Dates — Understand your I-20, I-94, and academic completion timeline.
- Stay Academically on Track — Your academic progress and immigration timeline are increasingly connected
- Ask Before You Act — Contact ISR before significant academic changes, transfers, enrollment changes, or international travel.
- Ask for Help Early — If you are concerned about completing your program within your authorized stay, contact us as soon as possible.
