Filing Your Taxes as an International Student

If you’ve earned income or received any kind of payment during the year, you’re required to file Federal and/or State taxes by the deadline, which is April 15.

The ISR Office partners with SprinTax, a tax service specializing in non-resident taxes, to assist international students in filing their taxes. They offer a special discount code that allows you to file your Federal taxes for free. However, if you need to pay State taxes, there will be a small fee.

What You’ll Need to File Taxes

  • W-2 Form (provided by your employer, available through Vision if you worked at ORU).
  • 1040NR Form (accessible through SprinTax).

How to File Your Taxes

  1. Attend the tax information seminar hosted by the ISR Office for valuable tax filing information.
  2. Create a free SprinTax account. Set up your account here and upload your tax documents as guided.
  3. SprinTax calculates your taxes. Once your documents are uploaded, SprinTax will calculate the amount of State and Federal taxes you owe.
  4. Download and print your tax packet, which includes instructions and links to make payments for your State and Federal taxes.
  5. Mail your tax returns. It is required to mail your tax returns in addition to paying electronically. You can do this at the ORU post office.

If you need assistance, SprinTax offers 24-hour chat and customer support through their website.
