Student Services & Resoucres
Academic Peer Advisor Each residence hall wing or floor has a peer advisor who assists students with academic matters such as studying, writing papers, tutoring and scheduling classes. Academic Peer Advisors (APAs) are well-trained to know where students can get the assistance they need. The APA program is kept informed concerning all registration and academic deadlines and processes; these announcements are made in regularly scheduled community meetings and through the Academic Edge by the peer advisor. The APAs are also involved in two major tutoring programs. The first one is the One-2-One Tutoring program, which will pair a student struggling in a subject with an APA who has either taken that subject or is majoring in that subject. The second is the Link, a program in which APAs will conduct study groups on designated subjects. All are welcome. Each week consists of different subjects.
This is a student leader position that students apply for starting in the fall semester. The Director of the APA Program in the Office of Student Resources reviews applications, and interviews take place before APAs are selected and assigned to wings.
The APA program is designed to encourage group study in the residence halls, to foster improved study habits and to act as a “student-help-student” tutoring program. For more information, contact the Office of Student Resources at 918.495.7018.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is filed annually and is the basis for determining eligibility for many of the aid programs. Students are encouraged to apply early. Students may be required to provide additional documentation to verify the accuracy of their aid applications. If requested, these verification measures will need to be completed prior to receiving any aid offered. The Financial Aid Office communicates with students through ORU email, permanent home phone number and mailing address, and by text message if students have an active cell phone number. Student Health Services will assist with referrals if necessary and may verify that this relationship has been established and is being continued. Our clinic provides general medical care for minor acute illnesses. Student Health Services has limited lab and evaluation ability. If further evaluation is needed, patients/students may be referred to another physician or facility. It is the patient’s responsibility to follow up with Student Health Services and/or with the facility or physician of their choice. For chronic care conditions, patients must maintain an ongoing relationship with a primary care physician. Students are seen on a first-come, first-served basis at Student Health. There is no fee for physician visits. Student Health accepts cash, checks, credit/debit cards, Eagle Bucks, or students may bill charges to their student account for medicines, some immunizations, TB testing and other lab and testing fees. In case of illness or accident, the University is authorized by the student or guardian to take whatever action the university deems necessary for the health and welfare of the student, including hospitalization. Student Health Services does not issue excuses from class for illness or injury. We will provide documentation of clinic visits. It is at the professor’s discretion whether or not to accept this documentation as an excuse from class. All Student Health Services records are considered privileged information and are strictly confidential. When a student is too ill to go to the cafeteria, meals may be brought to his or her residence hall room by “sick tray” permits. These must be obtained from the Residence Hall Director. ORU is committed to combining prayer and medicine as the best means of maintaining and regaining health. One is not substituted for the other, but they are used synergistically. For after hours and weekends, there are several emergency clinics located near ORU. Physician care is also available at St. John’s/Family Medical Care located at 81st and Memorial.

Whole Person Assessment (WPA)
WPA is a set of composite scores that reflects direct learning performance on the ORU learning outcomes. The summary figures for each learning outcome are an average of the WPA results from the assignments designed to measure different aspects of each outcome (Spiritually Alive, Intellectually Alert, Physically Disciplined, Socially Adept and Professionally Competent). Students can access their WPA scores in the same manner they access grades online on VISION. In addition to providing evidence of student growth, the WPA process provides feedback for student reflection for self-improvement as well as valuable information for university program improvement.
All entering students are required to compile and maintain a WPA in an ePortfolio that contains pieces of evidence (called artifacts) to document student growth. ePortfolio artifacts include items such as supporting documents, evaluations, recommendations, samples of written work (e.g., term papers, research projects, reflection papers, essays), video clips of presentations, test scores and evidence of creativity, performance and extracurricular activities. GEN 099 introduces undergraduate students to ORU learning outcomes, the University’s philosophy of assessment, skills and strengths assessment relating to career. Students who have won Whole Person Scholarships are required to mainting the following WPA scores and grade point averages, which are verified at the end of the spring semester.
