iPhone - General IMAP - Other Phones

To setup your mobile device to receive ORU e-mail use the following information. Please note that while mobile e-mail access is not supported by our Help Desk services group, these general instructions are offered for those users who wish to handle the technical administration themselves. Contact your service provider for device specific information.


iPhone or iPod Touch
  1. Select the "Settings" icon
  2. Select Mail (Mail, Contacts, Calendars)
  3. Select "Add Account"
  4. Select "Other" for the type of email account
  5. Enter your name under "Name"
  6. Enter your ORU E-mail address under "Address"
  7. Enter your Groupwise password under "Password"
  8. Click "Save" to save your account profile
  9. Make sure the IMAP button is selected at the top of the screen
  10. Under "Incoming Server" enter: mail.oru.edu
  11. Enter your Groupwise user name (the first part of your email address before the @ sign) in "User Name"
  12. Enter your Groupwise password under "Password"
  13. Under Outgoing Mail Server enter: mobilemail.oru.edu
  14. Enter your Groupwise user name under "User Name" 
  15. Enter your Groupwise password under "Password"
  16. Click "Save" to save the account information
General IMAP Settings

Any device capable of IMAP can utilize the ORU mobile e-mail. While we may not support or have a recommendation for your specific device, using the following settings should allow you to set up your email.

  1. IMAP Server: mail.oru.edu
  2. Turn on SSL
  3. Turn on authentication, and provide your Groupwise user name and password
  4. Set port to 993
  5. SMTP Server: mobilemail.oru.edu
  6. Turn off SSL
  7. Turn on authentication, and provide your Groupwise user name and password
  8. Set port to 465
Other Mobile Phones

It is our recommendation that you have a data plan with your carrier to avoid incurring unnecessary charges.

  1. Find the area on your phone to "Add New Account".
  2. Use your ORU email address such as: helpdesk@oru.edu
  3. In "Your Name" put your name as you want it to appear on outgoing e-mail from your phone.
  4. In "Account Display" name, put the name you want to call the e-mail account on your mobile device.
  5. Incoming mail service is: mail.oru.edu
  6. Account Type is: IMAP4
  7. In "User Name,"put your GroupWise account user name such as "HelpDesk" or some carriers require the full address 'helpdesk@oru.edu'
  8. Put your GroupWise password in the password box.
  9. You can choose to save your password (this is less secure) or have it require your password whenever you access your e-mail.
  10. Outgoing (SMTP) mail server is Service Provider specific. Example: AT&T's is cwmx.com, US Cellular is smtp.uscc.net "Outgoing Server Requires Authentication" should not be checked.
  11. In the "Advanced Service Settings", select "Require SSL" for incoming email only.
  12. Select Network Connection type (again service provider specific). Most AT&T accounts require Media Net
  13. Choose frequency of "Send/Receive" option

To Configure Wireless Internet Access on Your iPhone or iPod Touch:

  1. Touch the "Settings" icon on your home screen
  2. Touch the Wi-Fi bar
  3. Under the 'Choose a Network' Section, Touch the '>' for ORU-Meru
  4. You can now press your home button and begin using the Internet on Safari
Note: To Remove the Old Proxy Settings on ORU-Meru:
  1. Touch the "Settings" icon on your home screen
  2. Touch the Wi-Fi bar
  3. Under the 'Choose a Network' Section, Touch the '>' for ORU-Meru
  4. Move your screen down to "HTTP Proxy"
  5. Select "Off"

You can now press your home button and begin using the internet on your iPhone.
