1. Submit Your Application

Using one of the options below, have your official transcripts sent directly to ORU Admissions from each college and university you’ve attended.

Transcripts can be received in the following ways:

Entrance Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in computer science or a similar field, technical in nature, from a regionally accredited university. Students without adequate previous coursework in computer science may be admitted but required to take additional credits for the degree.
  • Minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5.
  • Personal sketch.
  • Three letters of recommendation.
  • Official, final transcript directly from your previous college or university.

Program Requirements

  • Graduate students must maintain at least a 3.00 grade point average (GPA)
  • Full-time enrollment is 9 credit hours.

This interview will give the prospective student an opportunity to ask questions about ORU’s counseling program and the faculty member has an opportunity to ask about the student’s goals and readiness for graduate studies. Please note: Interviews only take place should the department request it.

Transcripts

Graduate Record Examination

The decision to waive the GRE or MAT requirement is up to the discretion of the Graduate Education Chair.

International Students

Provide a TOEFL score of at least 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based), or 80 (web-based) or IELTS proficiency of at least 6, if English is not your primary language.

Admission to the Master of Healthcare Administration Program 

Applicants to the Master of Healthcare Administration will be reviewed for admission on the strength of their ability to successfully complete graduate studies and based on the criteria listed below:

  • Application to MHA program. 
  • A bachelor’s degree or recognized equivalent from an accredited institution. 
  • Academic achievement evidenced by either (1) a minimum GPA of 2.50 on a 4.00 scale or (2) submission of GRE test scores, taken within the last five years, with a minimal combined score of 300 for the verbal and quantitative sections. This requirement is waived if an applicant has earned a previous graduate degree or has five years of work experience after college. 
  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. 
  • Professional resumé. 
  • Two letters of recommendation. 
  • Documentation of English proficiency for any student whose first language is not English, as evidenced by 
    • A minimum TOFEL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score: 500, paper-based; 173, computer-based; or 61, Internet-based; or 
    • A minimum 6.5 IELTS score (International English Language Testing System) on the Academic Module; or 
    • A Duolingo score of 110 or better. 
  • Signed Honor Code pledge, reflecting alignment with ORU’s vision, mission, and standards of conduct. 

It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that all required information is made available to ORU for an admissions decision. The admissions committee of the College of Arts and Cultural Studies will review the applicant’s records when all information is complete. Applications are reviewed and evaluated in the order in which they are received. Admissions decisions are communicated to applicants in writing as soon as possible after the decision has been made. 

In accordance with the university’s philosophy of educating the whole person (spirit, mind, and body), all students are required to participate in the university’s health and fitness program. A medical assessment form must be completed prior to any physical activity as part of the first graduate HPE course. 

Admission may be denied for such things as crimes, moral turpitude, prior suspension, or any other factors that would be detrimental or disruptive to the university or its students. The university reserves the right to refuse or revoke admission or readmission to any prospective student or returning student. Any applicant who intentionally withholds pertinent information or who falsifies information may be required to withdraw from Oral Roberts University.

    • Autobiographical Statement: Present an account of your understanding of your call into full-time ministry. State your self-understanding of your ministry in the light of biblical, theological, and historical insights. Also, indicate your areas of strengths and weaknesses as you have carried out your ministry. This comprehensive statement must be at least 500 words.
    • Ministerial Experience: Submit a comprehensive account and description of your ministerial context and experience. Include the names of all churches/pastorates served, responsibilities, dates, and positions held and membership of each pastorate. If your ministry is not a local pastorate, provide a thorough description of it. It is understood that there may be considerable variety in the experiences of applicants who are in full-time ministry.
    • Plans for Continuing in Full-Time Ministry: The Doctor of Ministry degree is an "in ministry" degree. All applicants are required to continue in a recognized form of full-time ministry for the duration of the program. Please state your plans for continuing in ministry.
    • Statement of Reason for Applying to ORU: Indicate your reason for desiring a Doctor of Ministry degree. Why did you choose ORU?
    • Finances: Discuss how you plan to finance your Doctor of Ministry program if accepted. How will your church or present ministry assist with your expenses?

  • Writing Sample: Provide a writing sample of academic work, approximately 25 pages with footnotes and bibliography, completed within past 3 years and reflecting both the ability to complete independent research and a research interest appropriate to the degree program is required. This essay will be evaluated in terms of clarity of its thesis, ability to sustain an argument, critical engagement with pertinent primary and secondary sources, and professional presentation.
  • Vocational Essay: Write a 1,500 word vocational essay that details the following: a) personal testimony and spiritual journey; b) personal sense of vocation to academic and ministry leadership; c) professional goals; and d) plans to make original contributions to his or her academic field.
  • Research Proposal: Write a 500-1,000 word academic essay about your proposed research interest or question, which must have the potential to develop into a topic suitable for Ph.D. study.

Preference is given to those whose verbal score is in excess of 160 (600 paper-based) and whose analytical writing score is in excess of 5.0.
