Combine Computer Science and Bioinformatics to Drive Innovation in Healthcare and
Technology
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with Bioinformatics | Oral Roberts University
Under-
Program Overview
ORU offers a degree in Computer Science with a concentration in Bioinformatics. Bioinformatics is the field of science that involves the use of computer technology to store, analyze, and interpret biological data. It is a rapidly growing field that has applications in many areas of biology, including genetics, medicine, and agriculture. Bioinformatics combines biology, computer science, and information technology to study and understand the vast amounts of data generated by experiments in the life sciences. The goal of bioinformatics is to use this data to better understand the underlying mechanisms of living organisms and to develop new ways to diagnose and treat diseases.
Bioinformatics was created in response to the growing amount of biological data being generated by experiments in the life sciences. The field emerged as a way to use computational tools and techniques to analyze and interpret this data, and to better understand the underlying mechanisms of living organisms.
Bioinformatics emerged in the 1960s and 1970s as a way to analyze the large amounts of data generated by the Human Genome Project and other large-scale biological research efforts. In the decades since then, the field has continued to evolve and expand, driven by advances in technology and the growing amount of biological data being generated by research.
Today, Bioinformatics is an important part of many areas of biological research, and has applications in fields ranging from medicine and drug development to agriculture and environmental science. The field continues to grow and evolve, and is an essential part of modern biology.
