TULSA, Okla.—Oral Roberts University (ORU) announced that Mike Carter has been named as the Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations, effective April 1, 2022. Carter previously held the position of athletic director and remains as the athletic director emeritus. He has served over 28 years in university executive leadership and most recently was the interim vice-president of this division.
Carter will be instrumental in securing funding for ORU to further advance its unique model of whole-person education, strategic growth as an exemplar teaching university, and innovation in reaching students around the world.
ORU President Dr. William Wilson expressed appreciation for Mike, “We are grateful for Mike’s excellent service to ORU through the years. ORU has a bold vision for the future and Mike’s ability to lead a high-capacity team, instill trust in donors, and steward the affection of our alumni makes him an ideal person to lead this division of the University.”
Carter will be responsible for overseeing the current Whole Leaders for the Whole World campaign, a $77 million Phase 1 initiative to fund four new buildings along with student scholarships. Phase 2 of the campaign will launch immediately when Phase 1 goals are attained, raising funds for a new food service facility, student housing, and scholarships for first-generation college students.
“It has been an honor to serve ORU in the past, but I am thrilled for the new opportunities that lay ahead,” said Carter. “This University is unique and is truly a one-of-a-kind place in the world. ORU is an institution on the rise with tremendous supporters worldwide. The privilege to share this moving story with friends and continue my role as an ambassador for ORU is humbling. I am grateful for the trust that Dr. Wilson and the Board of Trustees have shown me, and I am thrilled to serve ORU in this new way. There are limitless possibilities ahead.”
