Dr. Sarah Myer, a Professor in the Department of Biology and Chemistry, feels incredibly honored to help train and equip students within the Spirit-empowered environment of Oral Roberts University to fulfill God’s call on their lives. As a product of ORU, having completed a Bachelor's degree in Biology and a Masters degree in Education, she recognizes the great value of combining academic excellence with Spirit empowered whole person education in developing leaders to reach their world for Christ.
After completing two degrees at ORU with academic awards including National Merit Scholar and ORU Presidential Scholar, Dr. Myer returned to ORU as a faculty member while completing her PhD in Biomedical Sciences at Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences. Her research focused on the differential gene expression during the nuclear reprogramming of murine stem cell development. Dr. Myer was honored with the Deans’ Faculty Award for Pedagogy and Andragogy, department teaching awards, and as the 2012 Outstanding Faculty Member of the ORU College of Science and Engineering.
After completing the DOMATA ministry training program and with hearts for missions, Dr. Myer and her husband Brian, another ORU graduate, felt called to move to Australia as a family with their two daughters for full time missions in 2014. She continued to teach as an ORU online biology adjunct while their family launched into full time ministry. While serving in Australia, they conducted outreaches into the drought impacted Outback, planted and pastored churches, sponsored ministry in Africa and Vietnam, and participated in ministry trips into Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea.
While in Australia, God opened doors in 2018 for Dr. Myer to teach in the Biomedical Sciences program at the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) where she received a grant to develop an open education textbook, and incorporated First Nations bush medicine into the curriculum resulting in media, panel, and conference presentations. The decades of innovative teaching across ORU and UniSQ resulted in Dr. Myer being honored for teaching excellence as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (York, England) in 2024.
After almost 12 years full time in Australia and with their daughters both returning to study at ORU, Dr Myer and her family felt called to return for this next season to the USA. Dr Myer was delighted to have the opportunity to return to teaching at ORU, further equipped with the additional skills and experience from the season of international teaching and ministry.
