The father of three towheaded children, two girls and a boy, John Matsson was born in Sweden. He is also married to a Swede named Åsa, pronounced Olsa. Leaving family and coming half way around the world to Tulsa was hard for Åsa, but the family tries to return for a visit every three years. They miss the beautiful Swedish summer flowers.

Dr. Matsson received both his masters degree and his doctorate from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. After acquiring his Ph.D., he undertook two years of scientific research into the physics that causes drag with an eye toward improving fuel efficiency.

Dr. Matsson has been at ORU since 2001. "I enjoy the Christian atmosphere on campus and getting to know the students," he commented. "Chapel services are so rich and meaningful. They are the glue that holds us together."

In his free time, Dr. Mattson builds and flies radio-controlled model airplanes. He is a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics and the local chapter, the Glue Dobbers.
