Dr. Kim Boyd wears many hats at ORU! First and foremost, she is the Dean of the College of Education where she overseas the faculty and accreditation. Secondly, when she is not leading the College of Education, she works as Assistant to the Provost with the Academy for Exceptional Teaching and Innovation where she leads a team of people dedicated to providing leadership and services that place ORU as a model for teaching excellence and support for all faculty.
Dr. Boyd came to ORU from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She came to ORU as a student, found her perfect match and best friend in Dr. Clarence Boyd, got married, had four children and multiple grandchildren, and has been in Tulsa ever since. She graduated with her master's in reading from Northeastern State University and her doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Oklahoma State University.
Dr. Boyd is a well-known member of the education community, again wearing many hats. She serves on the boards for Junior Achievement, Oral Roberts University Education Fellowship, and the International Christian Accrediting Association. Furthermore, she is a dynamic speaker with over 30 years of speaking experiences in places all over the world including Sweden, Colombia, and Nigeria. She served for the Steering Committee for the Revision of the Elementary Education Teacher Preparation Standards in 2015-2016 for the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), the national accrediting body that accredits the ORU College of Education. She currently serves as a CAEP council member. The Accreditation Council is the accrediting body of CAEP. The Accreditation Council determines the accreditation status of educator preparation providers (EPPs) and appoints volunteers to serve in roles related to the accreditation process. In addition, she has served on numerous state and national accreditation visits both as a team member and chair. Her most recent and notable accomplishment and service to ORU came in her ability to secure a grant worth over 2.2 million dollars. She is working with a team of staff and faculty to help increase the retention rates of our most vulnerable population at ORU!
One more notable characteristic of Dr. Boyd's is her ability to decorate! Check out any of the new buildings on campus, and you are sure to see her touch on them! Dr. Wilson trusts Dr. Boyd with finishing touches from furniture to lamps and mirrors. She is the resident decorator on campus!
