Tryouts for the 2024-2025 academic year will be held April 19th and 20th. Registration

In addition to this live tryout, we are also signing athletes at clinics, accepting video tryouts, and conducting a fall tryout (Aug ’24) to fill any remaining spots on the teams.
Cheer and Pom Tryout Requirements/Procedures
All current and prospective ORU students trying out for our teams must be accepted
to the University to receive a roster spot, and a 2.0 GPA is required to remain in
the program.
As we are working to build nationally competitive teams (for both cheer and pom),
it is imperative that all candidates have a level of experience that will allow them
to comfortably transition into our intense training environment. A list of preferred
skills is listed below:
Cheer Females
All female candidates will be judged on skills, personality, and presence. All females must be energetic, coachable, athletic, and demonstrate advanced cheerleading skills.
- Tumbling Expectations
- Standing tumbling: Cheerleaders should be able to consistently execute some form of standing skills. Back handsprings are great; tucks are preferred.
- Running Tumbling: preferred passes are round-off back handspring series and handspring tucks. We do not compete twisting skills in NCA’s intermediate division, but we may move divisions in the future since several of the current members have fulls.
- Stunting Expectations
- All females should have a working knowledge of group stunting safety, progressions, and technique. Tops (flyers) will also work in co-ed stunt pairs.
- Tryout Attire
- Female participants should wear solid-colored athletic shorts/shirts that are not
oversized. Cheer shoes are recommended, but not mandatory. Hair should be at least
half up. *Aerobic Center dress code does not allow exposed midriff (no sports bras/cut
shirts).

Cheer Males
All male candidates will be judged on skills, athleticism, energy, and school spirit. All males should possess a basic understanding of cheer stunts, ability to yell & engage a crowd, and have potential to advance their level of tumbling.
- Tumbling Expectations
- Standing Tumbling: Standing backs are preferred.
- Running Tumbling: Some form of running tumbling is preferred.
- Stunting Expectations
- All males must have experience stunting or lifting weights overhead. They should also demonstrate attention to safety, technique, and a drive to attain new skills.
- Tryout Attire
- Participants should wear a solid-colored shirt and shorts (athletic fit, not oversized), tennis shoes, and have neatly groomed head/facial hair.
Mascot Tryout Requirements/Procedures
Tryouts for Eli the Golden Eagles, the Summit League’s #1 mascot, are not held at
a scheduled time. Incoming/current students who are interested in joining the Eli
program can set up an interview and audition at any time during the school year. Candidates
should be prepared to learn and demonstrate the character walk, techniques to engage
the crowd, and some entertainment/dance moves.
