Oral Roberts University offers the only Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) degree in Theatre Teacher Certification in the state of Oklahoma and is one of nine universities in the United States. You can graduate fully prepared to pursue graduate school placement or any myriad of theatre teaching possibilities.

Our commitment to equip Spirit-empowered leaders is why you’ll finish your degree with strong theatre curriculum on which to navigate your own classroom experiences. You will acquire skills in Smart Board, computer assisted design and other software programs. ORU’s Theatre Teaching Certification will empower and challenge you to do your finest work!
You’ll be immersed in both theatre and education classes with some of the most talented people on campus, creating both stage sets and lesson plans! The Theatre Teacher Certification will provide you with Oklahoma secondary teaching certification upon graduation to equip you to begin teaching theatre and speech in high schools throughout the state. You will also be well empowered to pass teaching certifications for other states.

What makes ORU’s Theatre program stand out?
Through the philosophy of Whole Person Education, we create an atmosphere of collaboration, nurture imagination and court the inspiration of the Holy Spirit by dedicating ourselves to being masters of our craft. As a student with us, you’ll experience hands-on activities in the theatrical arts while developing teaching methods.
You will study all aspects of theatre, speech and debate along with educational methods and have access to the Education Technology Lab at ORU’s NCATE accredited College of Education. You’ll also have the opportunity to be a part of Alpha Psi Omega, a national, honorary and dramatic society, to help stimulate interest in theatrical activities both on and off the ORU campus. The Theatre program produces four main stage performance and one studio performance per year. Through The Playhouse Tulsa, a professional regional theatre company, you will have theatrical opportunities at local venues.

As a university, we meet the highest accreditation standards set by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).
