Program Overview
Oral Roberts University’s Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) degree in Theatre for Healing is the only program of its kind. If you love theatre and want to use it to help others and impact the world, this program is an avenue through which you can learn ways to serve through theatre.
In Theatre for Healing, you will study and practice Applied Theatre in a variety of settings. Applied Theatre is theatre for purposes beyond entertainment: theatre for the differently-abled; for older adults in care settings; for community building; for at-risk youth; in hospitals, prisons, classrooms, and churches; and on missions.
Theatre for Healing prepares you to live out your calling as a Holy Spirit-empowered leader, using your theatre talents to bring hope and healing to others. You will study theatre forms that share real-life stories. You will work with community-based programs to gain practical experience. Most of all, you will experience firsthand the impact you can make on others’ lives.
More than this, our unique mission to develop Spirit-empowered leaders through Whole Person Education can set you apart as a talented and creative professional to impact the world. You’ll experience a life-transforming education that will prepare you for a career in the entertainment industry.
When you graduate from this program, you will be equipped to create theatre in educational, church , and community settings, or to pursue graduate training as a drama therapist. The ORU Theatre program provides a place for you to excel in your craft and live out your Spirit-empowered mission.

What makes ORU’s Theatre program stand out?
Through the philosophy of Whole Person Education, we create an atmosphere of collaboration, nurture imagination and court the inspiration of the Holy Spirit by dedicating ourselves to being masters of our craft. As a student with us, you’ll experience hands-on experiences in live and filmed performances. You will have the opportunity to be a part of Alpha Psi Omega, a national, honorary and dramatic society which is a service organization to the community, to help stimulate interest in theatrical activities both on and off the ORU campus.
On top of this, you’ll collaborate with a great group of talented and creative students. You’ll learn directly from faith-grounded theatre professionals who know what it takes to succeed in this entertaining industry. Our current students and alumni have appeared on Broadway, film, television and in major theaters across the country and with dedication, passion and hard work, you can too!

Are there scholarships available?
