ORU Board of Trustees Announces College Name Change

The ORU Board of Trustees announces the renaming of the Anna Vaughn College of Nursing (AVCON) to the College of Health Sciences, effective immediately.  In recent board action, the college was renamed, and AVCON was returned to the name for which it has been so well known in the past, the Anna Vaughn School of Nursing (AVSON). Dr. Audrey Thompson has been appointed to serve as Associate Dean over AVSON. This is a new assignment and responsibility for Dr. Thompson.

As we move toward 2030, ORU remains vigilant in making strategic adjustments that will help prepare students with the best academic programs for the job market demands of the future. This college name change comes in recognition of the ever-broadening demands for health-allied science programs in addition to the nursing profession. We are excited about the increased possibilities this affords us in creating new programs to reach new students in the days ahead.

Dr. Wonsuk Ma is leading the Search Committee for a new Dean of the College of Health Sciences. During the interim, Dr. Kathaleen Reid-Martinez will serve as Acting Dean.
