Tulsa, OK - A Chinese student has just returned to school this week from Christmas break in good health. ORU officials consulted with the Tulsa Health Department on their recommendations of how to handle the situation. Our staff understood that one of their recommendations was that we could be proactive and quarantine the student for two weeks to assure that no symptoms of the coronavirus were present. ORU administration believed that given the volatility of the virus globally, and the recent warning by the World Health Organization as well as our State Department, that this was the best course of action. While the student was still in China, we communicated to her that when she arrived in Tulsa, she would be quarantined for two weeks. She agreed with this before traveling back to the United States. Presently, we have her in a quiet place where she has food, is comfortable and is able to take her classes online. The student is not exhibiting any symptoms of illness—we are simply trying to be as careful as possible given the health crisis the coronavirus presents. We are grateful for the student’s gracious cooperation with this requirement. Our prayers continue for all those affected in China and around the world by this unique health situation.
