Dr. Daniel D. Bunn Jr. has served as the Assistant Professor of Old Testament in the Undergraduate Theology Department at ORU since Fall 2019. Before coming to ORU, Daniel taught classes in-person as well as online at Fuller Theological Seminary and ORU in Old Testament/Biblical Interpretation since completing his Ph.D. in 2015.
In the classroom, Dr. Bunn prioritizes the development of student skills in reading the biblical text closely. He seeks to bring together academic, theological, and pastoral formation, as he invites students to learn to read the ancient text as Holy Scripture. He hopes to encourage students to read these texts with minds and hearts attuned to the Holy Spirit.
Dr. Bunn’s academic and research interests focus on how Christians are to read the Old Testament as Christian Scripture. His publications thus far have included both academic and lay-oriented material. His Ph.D. dissertation focused on reading Genesis as narrative. He hopes to bridge the gap between the local church and the academy, especially in terms of how the Old Testament is read.
Dr. Bunn has also served in a variety of local churches, as lead pastor, associate pastor, and adult education director. He and his family are actively involved in the local church.
Dr. Bunn earned his B.A. with honors from ORU. He earned the M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky. He earned the Ph.D. from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California.
Dr. Bunn has been married since 2004 and has four children.
