Ms. Jost came to ORU in 1975 having just graduated from Illinois State University where she double majored in HPE and English Literature in addition to playing Division One college basketball and softball. In her first position at ORU she joined a team of researchers in the ORU Human Performance Lab focused on exploring the association between lifestyle, fitness and health in college age students from Oklahoma and Arkansas. This work resulted in papers and presentations at national conventions across the country. In addition to her research work, she also taught several HPE 001 and 002 classes; and for a time, was the athletic trainer for several women’s sports teams at ORU. In 1983 Ms. Jost completed her master’s degree in Exercise Physiology at Western Illinois University while continuing to teach at ORU. With the advent of the ORU Medical School, she was appointed director of the Human Performance Lab and charged with overseeing and training staff to conduct fitness testing on students, faculty and members of the Tulsa Community. In addition, Ms. Jost did collaborative research with medical school faculty that focused on causes of muscle soreness, and the cardiovascular effects of G force on pilots. Her personal research centered on developing body fat prediction equations for various populations. During this period Ms. Jost also assisted with the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at the City of Faith.
Ms. Jost has taught several classes during her time at ORU including: Anatomy & Physiology,
Statistics, Kinesiology, Health Fitness Evaluation, Exercise for Special Populations,
School and Community Health, Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, Senior Paper
(25 years), Internship in Health and Exercise Science and HPE 001 and 002. Ms. Jost
has served on over 50 University committees and was responsible for the early years
of eportfolio development for her department. She has been a member of the American
College of Sports Medicine for 43 years and holds several of their professional certifications.
She recently completed work on the design and implementation of a program whereby
HES majors will be prepared to test for a professional certification at the completion
of their course work. The certification will provide Health and Exercise Science majors
a real advantage in the job market.
On the personal side, Ms. Jost enjoys climbing mountains, whitewater kayaking, riding
her scooter, horseback riding, repelling cliffs, camping in the mountains, scuba diving,
snorkeling, sailing and any other adventure that happens to cross her path. Every
adventure is a new day with God. Professor Jost says that the best thing about ORU
is that it’s God’s University and His presence is everywhere. Spending every day working
with people that love Jesus is a blessing beyond explanation!
