Dr. David Monk comes to Oral Roberts University with an extensive experience as a university professor. Dr. Monk has taught sociology and criminal justice for over 20 years. Dr. Monk has taught at regional universities in Oklahoma, Texas, and California. Dr. Monk has also taught at Fuller Theological Seminary in California, in the areas of missions, urban ministry, and church leadership.

Dr. Monk believes that in-class engagement is the key to an enriching academic experience for his students. Dr. Monk taught graduate and undergraduate courses in sociology at California State University, Sacramento. Dr. Monk taught at Southeastern Oklahoma State University as an assistant professor of sociology and criminal justice. Among other courses, Dr. Monk has taught Criminology, Juvenile Delinquency, Social Work, Social Psychology, Comparative Cultures, Multicultural Leadership, Sociology of Religion, and Death and Dying.

Dr. Monk leads a life grounded in the Scriptures and relies upon the Holy Spirit for guidance in every area of his life. Dr. Monk has overcome many challenges while growing up in the inner city of Los Angeles, California. Dr. Monk is a lifelong learner, who continues to grow in the knowledge of God. Dr. Monk’s spiritual journey began while living with his Grandmother in Arkansas. Dr. Monk is presently the pastor of a non-denominational church in southeastern Oklahoma. Dr. Monk was licensed and ordained in the Church of God in Christ. Dr. Monk believes in the manifestation of the power of God through healing, deliverance, and miracles. Dr. Monk’s favorite scripture is John 10:10, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

Dr. Monk has received numerous honors throughout his career. Dr. Monk is a lifetime member of the Alpha Kappa Delta International Sociology Honor Society. He is a recipient of the Southern Regional Education Board Doctoral Fellowship. Dr. Monk has also completed Phases I-IV in Choctaw (Chahta Anumpa Aiikhvna)

Dr. Monk completed his B.A. at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Dr. Monk majored in sociology and minored in criminal justice and psychology. Dr. Monk completed his Master of Science degree in Sociology from Oklahoma State University. Dr. Monk then completed his Ph.D. in Sociology also at Oklahoma State University. Dr. Monk received the O.D. Duncan, Outstanding Graduate Student Research award in sociology at Oklahoma State University.
