Dr. Mashburn is an Associate Professor of the Anna Vaughn School of Nursing. Her undergraduate college experience began at ORU as a pre-med student, but after changing her major to Nursing, she earned an Associate of Arts from Bacone College, a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Northeastern State University, and a Master’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Oklahoma.

When Dr. Mashburn completed a Ph.D. in Nursing from the University of Minnesota in 2012, she became one of less than 15 Native American nurses in the United States with these credentials. Her dissertation title was “Self-efficacy, Self-reliance, Adherence to Self-care, and Glycemic Control among Cherokee with Type 2 Diabetes.”

Maintaining board certification as a Medical-Surgical Nurse and Certified Nurse Educator, Dr. Mashburn has taught nursing at the CNA, LPN, ADN, RN to BSN, generic BSN, MSN, and doctoral levels, and filled the role of Director of Nursing at NSU and Director of Nursing and Allied Health for Connors State College. She has served as a Peer Evaluator for the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, and in leadership positions in the Oklahoma Nurses Association, the Oklahoma Indigenous Nurses Association, and Zeta Delta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau.
