Dr. Audrey Thompson is the Associate Dean of the Anna Vaughn School of Nursing and holds the rank of Senior Professor. Serving in her 30th year here at ORU, her career initially at ORU Anna Vaughn School of Nursing was as a member of the teaching team for the Community Mental Health Nursing and the Leadership in Nursing course, but later expanded to accepting the challenge of administrative duties. Encompassing functioning as Project Coordinator of two Federal grants to the coordination of International clinical experiences across the nursing curriculum.
Dr. Thompson holds a PhD in Nursing from Texas Woman's University, authoring the dissertation: “The Relationship among Health Literacy, Self-Efficacy, and Self-Management of Individuals with Diabetes (2010).” A Masters in Nursing degree from Oral Roberts University, specializing in community health nursing and nursing administration. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Oklahoma. Her research interests include health needs, community development, leadership, and nursing leadership issues.
Intermittently, she has the opportunity to work as an Organizational Consultant for non-profit agencies and special interest groups. In this role, Dr. Thompson participates in board governance, assisting with the identification of funding sources, grant writing, and other organizational issues. Empowering communities to grow and flourish is a God-given passion of Dr. Thompson's.
