Keith Gogan has been teaching writing and a variety of English courses for the English and Modern Languages department at Oral Roberts University for over 25 years.  He has taught composition 101, Composition 102, Composition 303, Literary Writing, Poetry, American Nature Writers, and Reading and Writing Lab, among other classes. In 2003, he was awarded the Alumni Award for Professionalism in the Classroom: Mentoring. He is the faculty advisor for ORU’s own literary magazine Promethia.

In the classroom, Professor Gogan integrates Christian values into all of his curriculum, largely through assigned readings from diverse writers. Through course content, he especially wishes to teach critical thinking and its applications to Christian living, transcending apologetics to aspire to a life dominated by agape love. He is passionate about serving God in the realms of social justice and care for God’s property, our planet.

Professor Gogan has published poetry and essays in publications as diverse as poetry magazines and linguistics journals. He has presented papers at many academic conferences, especially Christianity and Literature conferences.

In addition to teaching English and writing classes, Professor Gogan teaches the Backpacking and Fitness course for the Health, Leisure, and Sports Sciences department at ORU. He has taught that class for over 25 years, leading students on overnight and multi-day backcountry trips in all seasons and in five states. One of his passions outside the classroom is simply bringing people outdoors to experience primary reality. He has been a certified Wilderness First Responder since 1999, which helps him lead trips safely.

Professor Gogan earned his B.A. in English Education from Oral Roberts University in 1987. In 1995, he earned an M.A. in Education, Teaching English as a Second Language from Oral Roberts University. In 2016, he successfully completed the OSU Writing Project’s summer institute, a selective program for faculty development.
