Jeff McCoy has been teaching music for nearly two decades. Before coming to ORU to work with the music production department, he was Band Director at Muskogee High School from 2018 to 2022. He worked with 6th through 12th-grade band students in the areas of Jazz, Concert, and Marching band. He arranged the Marching Band music, was the Marching Band drill designer, and sound engineer. He was also the percussion coordinator and 8th-grade band director. Mr. McCoy helped write grants, ran fundraisers, and helped establish communications with the surrounding community.
Before coming to Muskogee, Mr. McCoy was the Head Band Director at Victory Christian School from 2013 to 2018. He helped grow the band program from 7 students to 107 students in five years. Mr. McCoy was the first private school band director to win a state championship in Oklahoma. He also led the middle school band to win multiple Outstanding Achievements awards, another first for private schools in Oklahoma.
He worked in Nashville as a freelance musician and sound engineer. There, he helped record albums in Christian music. He worked as a live sound engineer for churches and studios. He also played percussion, drum set, and keyboard for musicians' records and albums.
Mr. McCoy has four degrees and is currently working on finishing his doctorate at Southern Nazarene University in 2023. He has studied music at The University of Oklahoma, Berkley School of Music, The Boston Conservatory, Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and Oklahoma State University.
He is an active clinician, music producer, publisher, music writer, Finale coach, music arranger, marching band drill writer, percussion/drum set coach, digital audio workstation coach, and music education YouTuber.
Mr. McCoy's career memberships include Oklahoma Music Education Association, Eastern District Band Directors Association, Percussion Arts Society, Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society, Drummers for Jesus, and the Oklahoma Education Association.
Jeff McCoy lives with his wife and three children. His wife, Alycia McCoy, is an alumni of ORU. They are members of Boulevard Christian Church in Muskogee. He enjoys the outdoors with his family, learning about technology, and is an avid reader.
