Brandon Roye is a new addition to the Theatre, Dance and Visual Arts department. Roye comes to Oral Roberts University the Technical Director and resident Scenic Designer after receiving his M.F.A. in theatrical scenic design from the University of Arkansas in 2020. He received his B.A. in Theatre from Oklahoma Baptist University in 2002.

Between obtaining his B.A. and M.F.A. Professor Roye’s professional pursuits have taken him all over the country. Some of his professional credits include Assistant Props Master at the Old Globe Theatre San Diego, Props Master of the Pasadena Playhouse, and Leadman of the Art Department for the Hallmark Channel as well as the SyFy Channel. Aside from theatrical and film credits, Professor Roye has also worked as an Adjunct Professor, Instructor, and Technical Director for Oklahoma Baptist University, Brookhaven College, and Jenks High School.

Professor Roye also loves performing for both stage and film. Not only does he love doing it, but he strongly believes that this is vital to being a good designer. Knowing how to analyze and understand a playwright’s script and its characters are necessary in order to create (on the stage or screen) the world that they will live in. A few places that he has appeared on stage include Playhouse Tulsa, the American Theatre Company, Tulsa’s Shakespeare in the Park, as well as the Hallmark Movie Channel and several independent films. Roye has been a member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG/AFTRA) for almost 20 years.

Roye believes that Christian higher education is more than just expanding a students’ knowledge about the school’s history and beliefs. While that is very important, it should also be about expanding the world to the students. His job as a professors is to prepare and educate them to what awaits out in the world. This is a critical time for all students. It is when they begin to make more and more decisions themselves as they begin to discover more and more freedoms (and responsibilities) that come with being an adult. Professor Roye wants to prepare and enlighten them as best he can, so that when they are faced with harsh or confusing circumstances, they have the faith, and moral steadfastness to stand for Christ. His experience and knowledge of the entertainment industry can be of great benefit to ORU’s students, and he will always strive to pass on what he has learned.
