Excellence: The 'Ghana Girls' Learn Nursing, Faith Abroad
Tulsa, OK - Students from the Anna Vaughn College of Nursing have recently returned from a three-week trip to Ghana, where they carried out their studies and participated in real-world care alongside the Manna Mission Hospital.
"It is amazing the bonds we have formed here among our team and the people here," says Gracie Choisnard. "We will be forever changed by each precious relationship!"
Along with Choisnard, Johanna Lundgren, Michelle Love Skelton, Sadie Schaffner and Sarah Folluo participated in clinics in several areas, including prenatal care, eye care, pediatrics, labs and women's health. The team even had the privilege and honor of assisting in multiple births, an especially meaningful moment.
"Today God showed us that holding the hand of a laboring mother, hugging her through a contraction, and teaching her to breathe is exactly what God does for all of us every day," says Skelton. "Holding our hands, hugging us through the biggest hurts, and teaching us to breathe and lean on Him is His greatest joy, and His timing is always perfect."
The students felt extremely blessed to have the opportunity to dip their toes in both the Atlantic Ocean and in the Ghanaian culture. It's an experience that has deepened their faith, their worldview, and their nursing education.
"Each and every day spent here in Africa is such a blessing," says Choisnard, "and it is truly amazing to see the work of God in every circumstance."
