ORU Provides Business Solutions for Cyber Security

Cyber SecurityORU Quest, the new training division of Oral Roberts University, presented two seminars addressing cyber security issues in the modern world. The morning seminar was titled "Protecting Organizations in the Digital Age" and took place in the Mabee Center on the campus of ORU.

The morning session spotlighted the need for chief executives to actively engage in the responsibility of information security — going above and beyond the conventional perspective that security is solely a matter for the Information Technology (IT) department. The executive session was well-represented by area CEOs, CIOs and CFOs.

Following the morning session, participants were invited to an executive luncheon with ORU President William M. Wilson, who shared with area leaders about ORU’s global vision.

“ORU is a center of excellence,” said Wilson. “The Quest professional development program combines training from the University’s world-renowned faculty and staff members, as well as leading experts from around the globe. The program provides unmatched learning experiences for professionals in the Tulsa area and beyond.”

The afternoon session focused on the operational and technical needs of engineers, digital networks managers, IT managers, CIOs, IT personnel, computer science academic directors and professors.

Featured speakers included global information security expert Stephen Watkins, who is highly regarded for his work with Fortune 50 and Fortune 100 Companies, and Michael L. Mathews, chief information officer (CIO) at Oral Roberts University.

The seminars had more than 60 people in attendance — representing the health care, oil and gas, media production, higher education, technology and manufacturing sectors.

"We chose cyber security as ORU Quest’s inaugural seminar because it is a critical topic for success in today’s market,” said Sergio Matviuk, dean of ORU Online and Lifelong Learning. “Conventionally, some think of cyber-attacks happen only to large corporations and to governments, but in reality, every organization is at risk."
