Intramural Fields RenderingTulsa, OK – Oral Roberts University will cut the ribbon on its new intramural fields, the ORU Sports Park, Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at 4:30pm. The ribbon cutting will be followed immediately by two flag football playoff games.

The ORU Sports Park on the southeast corner of 81st and Lewis includes a multi-purpose field that will accommodate rugby, football, lacrosse, and soccer, as well as a softball diamond, soccer pitch, and two sand volleyball courts.

“Staying active is an important part of being a whole person at ORU,” said Dr. William M. Wilson, ORU President. “We wanted to build this facility as a way to enhance the student experience and to provide fun ways for them to stay physically disciplined while developing into leaders who will change the world.”

ORU recently added a competitive rugby club and has already competed against such schools as John Brown and Pittsburgh State. The men’s team is coached by Guts Church pastor Bill Scheer, who played Rugby in Tulsa for many years. The church recently gave a generous donation to help ORU build the sports park.

“My wife, Sandy and I love having this opportunity to invest in ORU,” said Scheer. “It’s such an honor to be a part of what God is doing at ORU. This is a great time to partner with this University and together build a championship rugby program.”

ORU’s Alumni Association also contributed to the project, sponsoring one of the fields.

“Intramural competition has always been an important part of campus life at ORU,” said Alumni Board President, Johnie Hampton. “As alumni we wanted to support the mission of the University and part of that mission is raising up whole persons who remain active and healthy while also training them to ‘go into every person’s world’.”
