ORU Alumni Matthew and Renee Pride Commit $200,000 to Music Scholarships
Oral Roberts University has announced a $200,000 commitment by ORU alumni Matthew
and Renee Pride to fund scholarships for the ORU music department, including orchestra
and band members, as well as other music scholarships.
“We are very thankful for this generous gift from the Prides,” said ORU President William M. Wilson. “When you see alumni engage like this, it tells a great story of their confidence in the education they received from this university. We are excited at the possibilities for the music program and look forward to a continued positive relationship with ORU alumni from all over the globe.”
The $200,000 donation will be paid out in four annual $50,000 installments beginning in 2013. As part of the agreement, ORU has committed to continue to provide at least $50,000 per year to music majors.
“My wife and two daughters were involved in the excellent music program at the university and as we met with the department we saw a need for scholarships,” said co-owner of Pride Energy Company, Matthew Pride. “We wanted the music department to be able to recruit highly talented students and for ORU to have a competitive scholarship program in order to accomplish this.”
The selection process will give preference to Quest Whole Person Scholarship recipients, but will not be limited to them. To the extent that the Prides' donations fund scholarships for Quest recipients, their gifts will be eligible to be matched by the Quest Whole Person Scholarship matching program.
The Quest Whole Person Scholarship Program offers tuition awards up to $20,000 to well-rounded students who dream of furthering their education at ORU and emerging as servant leaders who are spiritually alive, intellectually alert, physically disciplined, socially adept and professionally competent.
