THE MISSION
The mission of the Oral Roberts University Student Veterans Association is to support all veterans of the Armed Forces as well as military-affiliated students in their pursuit of academic excellence. The SVA strives to cultivate a positive environment for educational progression, spiritual growth, professional development, social interaction and promotion of service and goodwill to the University and its community.
SVA Battle Rhythm
The SVA meets weekly in the Veterans Lounge for fellowship, team-building, and looking ahead to identify events or service projects to benefit the ORU community. Spouses are not only welcome but encouraged to be part of the SVA! Periodically, we will invite guests to visit with us, like VA Peer Counselors, VA Claims Representatives, University representatives, local veteran service organizations, and others that the members might want to invite. CHARTER PROGRAM
The SVA has established a charter program as part of the National Student Veterans of America, the premier organization leading service, research, programs, and advocacy for veterans in higher education. Their vision is the empowerment of student veterans to lead and live their best lives, and their mission is to act as a catalyst for student veteran success by providing resources, network support and advocacy to, through, and beyond higher education.
SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society
ORU is a charter member of the nation’s only recognized veterans national honor society. SALUTE is the first national academic honor society established for student veterans, and active military, in 2-year and 4-year institutions of higher education. Another unique element of this honor society includes a 4-tier system, which is designed to encourage undergraduate student veterans to strive to improve their GPAs and advance to higher tier levels (and scholarship brackets) in the honor society during their academic careers.
