Program Overview
The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Commercial Music prepares students for successful careers in the widely diverse world of producing music. From albums to film scores, to advertising music, students in this program will work with state-of-the-art software and hardware. The program includes a MIDAS workstation lab and multiple recording studios that offer hands-on applications for live audio mixing.
Students will learn techniques for performing, composing, recording, and marketing themselves as musical artists. ORU students use Logic Pro, Pro Tools, and other DAWs to write and produce their own music on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and more. Students will take courses in Sound Stage Recording, Digital Audio Workstation, Live Sound, Songwriting, Music Production, Music for Film, Song Writing, Lights for Music, Live Worship, Music Industry, Music Distribution, and Social Media. As Commercial Music majors, students will gain experience to become Spirit-empowered leaders and influencers, fully prepared to build God's kingdom through the inspirational world of music.

What makes ORU’s B.S. in Commercial Music program stand out?
The structure of the degree stimulates an appreciation and love for music through the study of various disciplines. Music is a socializing force and you will develop a compassionate understanding of yourself and your environment through self-expression.
Also, ORU became an All Steinway School in Spring 2011.
What about accreditation?
As a university, we meet the accreditation standards set by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The ORU Music Department is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). ORU is also an American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) university.
Are there scholarships available?
Nearly 100% of our full-time, undergraduate residential students receive ORU grants and scholarships through academic achievement and through ORU’s premier scholarship opportunity of our Quest Whole Leader Scholarship.
DO I NEED TO AUDITION?
Admission to the music program requires an audition with the music department. Students must first apply and be admitted to the university prior to auditioning.
