Nancy Mankin truly knows what it means to embrace change.
The daughter of a Navy doctor, Professor Mankin has moved to various cities across
the United States. “I lived in many places, including Jacksonville, Fla., San Diego,
CA., Pasadena, CA, Virginia, Michigan and Hawaii!” She attended University of Hawaii
for 3 years and then finished off at University of Central Oklahoma in 1980. She graduated
with a Bachelors of Science in Health and Physical Education and then went back and
got her Masters Degree in Education with an emphasis in Health and Physical Education.
Nancy never expecting to be a college professor until, while she was teaching physical
education for an elementary school, one of her student’s moms approached her with
a job as a college professor. She comments, “After teaching ten years in the public
schools, I started at the university where I could work with bigger kids! I like to
think about it as God opening a door for me here; it has been a blessing!” Nancy said.
And so, with 13 years under her belt here at ORU, Nancy’s heart is for her students
to walk away from ORU feeling confident that God has brought them here to be trained
for their purpose and know that they have received His gifts and are now able to go
out and share that with others.
“I also hope they walk away with a passion for their profession so that it won't feel
like work. I want them to know God in all that they do!”
