Students Experience Greenwood in North Tulsa
Dr. Mary Alice Trent, English professor, took students from her African-American literature
class to Greenwood Cultural Center in North Tulsa Oct. 8. The center promotes and
celebrates Oklahoma's African-American heritage and culture and is the historic site
of Black Wall Street and the 1921 Tulsa Race Riots. Students also got to experience
the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame, the Opal Dargon Renaissance Hall and an art gallery
at the center. This class field trip provided a rich educational experience for this
class, taking them into "every person's world" in the broader Tulsa community.
