Dr. Barber is currently the Director of the Field Education and Assistant Professor of Practical Theology at ORU’s Graduate School of Theology and Missions since 2001, and holds membership on the Dean's Administrative Team. As the Director of Field Education, his desire is to develop vocationally excellent leaders, and individuals ready to serve practically as ministers in the church, as well as in the community. His service and earlier experience as an adjunct professor for four years in the ORU School of Theology and Ministry (STM) has taught him valuable knowledge in the areas of Pastoral Care and Field Education.
In addition to his administrative duties, he currently teaches several classes in the STM residential and modular formats: Introduction to Pastoral Care; Preaching and Healing; Minister as Equipper; Black Church History; Black Preaching in the Afro-American Tradition; Prayer, the Personal Discipline of Pastor; Pastor as Evangelist; Practical Theology for Charismatic Ministers; Ministry in the Urban Setting; & Introduction to Evangelism. He also participates with the Doctor of Ministry program at ORU as a supervisor and reader.
He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Virginia Tech, and received both a Masters of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degree from Oral Roberts University. He has served as a pastor for several churches, enjoying a rich and very rewarding experience. He was as one of the Assistant pastors at Church on the Rock in Rockwall, TX, for four years, Church on the Rock in Tulsa, OK, for three years, and Victory Christian Center in Tulsa, OK, for four years. He served as Chaplain and then Director of Crossroads Hospice of Oklahoma, in Tulsa for seven years.
Dr. Barber is strongly involved in several Para-church ministries: Barber Ministries, Inc. (BMI), which he founded; the Pastoral-Care Advisory Group (PAG) at Hillcrest Hospital; Advisory Board Vice-President of Compassionate Outreach to East Africa Missions (COTEAM); and Advisory Board of Because He Lives Ministry. He also teaches in local Bible colleges and preaches frequently in churches world-wide. He is licensed and ordained through “World Ministry Fellowship” Plano, TX. He and wife presently serve in community outreach in the Tulsa area with Tulsa Christian Center Ministries, with their Pastor Rev. Nancy Cook. The ministry preaches the gospel to the poor and homeless.
Dr. Barber is currently writing two books. A rendering of his doctoral thesis for publication “He Called His Disciples' Contemporary Voice to the Future Church” and “Jump Culture, For Christ Sake!...Surviving Church in the New Millennium” He is in collaboration with ORU Professor, Dr. Thomson Mathew to rewrite “Ministry Between Miracles, Caring for Hurting People in the Power of the Holy Spirit” 2002 Xulon Press.
