ORU's academic vision is to transform students into whole, competent servant leaders. Our goal is to grow the whole person; to transform students by the time they graduate into men and women who are spiritually alive, intellectually alert, physically disciplined, socially adept and professionally competent.
In 2002 the whole person assessment was introduced on campus as a means for students and their professors to measure a student's progress toward goals while at ORU. Today, the entire university uses this tool. It has become the primary data-gathering instrument for personal assessment. Students submit entries into the portfolio as evidence that educational and growth objectives are being met. Evaluations, coursework, test scores and other accomplishments are submitted at entry, intermediate and capstone levels.
The impact of the whole person assessment prompted the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to present ORU with the 2007 Award for Institutional Progress in Student Learning Outcomes.
The whole person assessment helps students understand clearly that education is about more than completing courses. It is also about building character and becoming a person with a Christian worldview, a purpose and the skills to live a life of accomplishment and service. Students will be able to show direct evidence of learning in the areas of thinking, communicating and analyzing along with many other attributes that are important to employers and professionals.
In Spring 2009, ORU awarded the first annual Quest Whole Person Scholarships to students
