Program Overview

Oral Roberts University’s Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Music Therapy program empowers you to become an established health care professional using the vibration of music to address physical, emotional, cognitive, spiritual, and social needs of individuals of all ages. The ORU Music Therapy Undergraduate Degree Program is approved by the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) and accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). ORU is an institutional member of NASM.

The Music Therapy Clinic at ORU is housed on the first floor of Cityplex Tower, where you will have the exciting opportunity to develop your therapeutic skills and clinical competence with professional music therapists. With passion and hard work, you’ll have the potential to excel as a Spirit-empowered music therapist who can serve a wide range of patient populations.

What makes ORU’s B.M. in Music Therapy program stand out?

Through the philosophy of Whole Person Education, we create an atmosphere of collaboration, nurture imagination and court the inspiration of the Holy Spirit by dedicating ourselves to being masters of our craft.

The structure of the degree stimulates an appreciation and love for music through the study of various disciplines. Music is a socializing force, and you will develop a compassionate understanding of yourself and your environment through self-expression.

You will also have the opportunity to engage with your fellow Music Therapy majors through the student-lead Music Therapy Student Association.

ORU became an All Steinway School in Spring 2011.

What about accreditation?

As a university, we meet the highest accreditation standards set by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The ORU Music Department is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). ORU is also an American Music therapy Association (AMTA) approved university.

Are there scholarships available?

Nearly 100% of our full-time, undergraduate residential students receive ORU grants and scholarships through academic achievement and through ORU’s premier scholarship opportunity of our Quest Whole Leader Scholarship. 

DO I NEED TO AUDITION?

Admission to the music program requires an audition with the music department. Students must first apply and be admitted to the university prior to auditioning.
