This major meets the State of Oklahoma’s requirements for a teaching license at the secondary level (middle and high school). You will be empowered to teach English and language arts in private and public schools. You will also have the opportunity to earn licensure in a second subject or content area. In order to obtain this additional licensure, The Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation requires the OSAT/OPTE test(s) to be passed.

What makes ORU’s English Literature with Professional Education program stand out?
This program allows students to experience three main components: general education, professional education and English content. Through these studies, you will become proficient in grammatical structure of the English language and analyzing writing styles while applying linguistic principles.
During the professional education courses, you will examine Biblical principles for education and become familiar with the concepts behind the learning, instruction and historical background of the teaching profession.
